About Dr. Robyn Choi
Dr. Robyn is a NCCAOM board-certified and licensed acupuncturist in New York. She received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health Sciences.
Before becoming an acupuncturist, she worked in public health organizations and became aware of healthcare issues and needs in New York. Working for New York communities, she has witnessed many community members fail to get essential treatments due to economic, cultural, and language barriers and deep-rooted issues in the healthcare system. To make her treatments affordable and accessible, she partners with Jaya Yoga Center in Brooklyn, to provide monthly community acupuncture.
Currently, she provides onsite acupuncture treatments for the employees at Apollo in Manhattan and operates her private practice, Calming Sense Acupuncture, PLLC, in Brooklyn.
Her past clinical experience includes working with HIV and immune-deficient patients at St. Vincent HIV/AIDS Center, treating previously incarcerated people at Fortune Society in NYC. She served as one of the founding members of Third Root Community Health Center in Brooklyn, established in 2008, which strives to service the under-served community members in New York City. She has always been interested in combining her training in Acupuncture with her interest in public health to bring many benefits of Acupuncture to New York City communities. She is a member of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM) and the Acupuncture Society of New York(ASNY).
Her practice philosophy and style
She sees that a broken connection between mind, body, and spirit leads to chronic physical and emotional ailments in modern life. She strives to re-establish that balance for her patients through the unique combination of Acupuncture, mind-body medicine, nutrition/herbal guidance, and lifestyle suggestions.
She practices evidence-based acupuncture and keeps herself updated with the most recent research studies on Acupuncture and integrative medicine. She continues to take continuing education courses taught by thought leaders and teachers in the field. She believes that patients are best served with collaborative and integrative approaches. She directs her patients to the most appropriate disciplines and practitioners when necessary. She empowers her patients to take charge of their health.
She uses her unique way of intuitive palpation on acupuncture meridians, which detects blockage in the channels to alleviate physical and emotional pain and discomfort. Her style is gentle yet effective. Often, her clients state they feel a sense of relaxation and ease at her sessions. More than ten years of her practice experience deepened her understanding of the human body and developed sensitivity to detect specific types of imbalances patients are experiencing. She encourages her patients to increase awareness of their minds, body, and spirit. She is often an investigator at the session, delving into many questions to better understand the symptom, and a technician to fine-tune her skill set. She believes building trust and close relationships are important in creating a positive outcome.
Her focus areas are pain, headache/migraines, sleep difficulty, mild anxiety/depression, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, and women’s health issues. Robyn works with all age groups, including pediatrics.
